The Board operates through a system of standing committees, each of which considers issues related to a special subject matter. The committees and their charges are as follows:

Administration & Finance Committee

The Administration & Finance Committee will address Board operations and responses to legislative action. The Committee will also perform budgetary oversight of the BESE, LDE, RSD, and SSD finances as well as MFP analysis and planning, RSD capital projects and the 8(g) Grant Program.

Educator Effectiveness Committee

The Educator Effectiveness Committee will address issues related to education certification, evaluation, performance and preparation.

Academic Goals & Instructional Improvement Committee

The Academic Goals & Instructional Improvement Committee will address issues related to accountability, academic standards and assessment. The Committee will also engage in policy discussions and decisions related to improving academic performance and closing the achievement gap, red tape reduction and special and nonpublic school management.

School Innovation & Turnaround Committee

The School Innovation & Turnaround Committee will address charter school performance, support and oversight as well as RSD performance management.

Advisory Councils

The Board has a number of advisory councils which they have created or are provided by state or federal law to assist them in carrying out their duties and responsibilities. Advisory Councils report their findings and recommendations to the appropriate Standing Committee for consideration and action, which then goes to the full Board.
