In fall 2011, the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) announced an initiative that allows states to apply for flexibility waivers from federal No Child Left Behind regulations in exchange for rigorous and comprehensive state-developed plans designed to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction. The Louisiana Department of Education released a preliminary draft of the NCLB waiver application for Louisiana on February 7. A revised version was released on February 27.
In April, the USDOE sent a request to the LDOE asking for additional information/clarification. The LDOE addressed the USDOE’s questions via an expounded version of its previous waiver application.
