Pathways to Teaching

The Louisiana Department of Education offers multiple pathways to becoming a teacher in Louisiana:

Alternate Teacher Preparation Programs - If you have at least a bachelor’s degree and want to be a teacher, an alternate preparation program is the right pathway for you.

Traditional Teacher Preparation Programs- If you decide prior to college or early in your college career that you want to be a teacher, a traditional preparation program is the right pathway for you.

STAR - Students Teaching and Reaching - If you are a high school student interested in pursuing teaching as a career, the STAR Program may be the right pathway for you.
